http://www.greenpeace.org/mexico/es/Noticias/2016/Junio/Respuesta-de-Greenpeace-frente-a-la-carta-de-premios-Nobel-pidiendo-que-revise-su--postura-respecto-al-arroz-dorado/

The video for her song, Fuck Me, Ray Bradbury went viral and earned Bloom a Hugo Award nomination. She has released two albums including Please Love Me and Suck It, Christmas!!! (A Chanukah Album).

Bullseye: John C. Reilly & Shamir [r]

http://www.maximumfun.org/bullseye/bullseye-john-c-reilly-shamir-r

John C. Reilly: "Freedom and Anarchy" On Set, and Honesty in Acting
John C. Reilly has shown off his talent for comedy in movies like Talladega Nights and Step Brothers. He's also played a number of dramatic roles in movies like Magnolia and Gangs of New York, and was nominated for an Oscar for playing the cuckolded husband in the movie version of Chicago.
For the past few years, Reilly has also produced and starred in a bizarre show called Check it Out with Dr Steve Brule. So why does a movie star have a faux cable-access show that runs in the middle of the night on adult swim?
John C. Reilly tells Jesse why he chose to take on the goofy, open-hearted and blustery Dr. Steve Brule with comedy duo Tim and Eric, his summer of fun working on the set of Boogie Nights, and what he thinks his duties are as an actor.
Check it Out with Dr Steve Brule is currently airing on Adult Swim. Reilly's new movie The Lobsteris in theatres now.

Shamir: Adding Light to Darkness With His Music
Shamir is a musician who is really hard to pin down. His countertenor voice adds a distinctive flair to his infectious, sometimes poignant dance music but it’s a quality that’s also led to confrontations with classmates who were unaware of his Taekwondo training.
With his debut LP, Ratchet, Shamir drew inspiration from his life in Las Vegas. Shamir's Vegas had nothing to do with The Strip and instead was dominated by tumbleweeds and the distinctive odor of a hog farm.
As Shamir describes it, “I kind of decided to make my music more danceable and lighthearted to take away from the heaviness of the lyrics. Because why not, why does your music also have to be heavy if your lyrics are?”
Shamir tells Jesse about constructing a creative identity in a city known for producing more entertainers than artists; how his love for country music inspired him; and how his mother’s proclivity for earth magic isn't quite his thing.
Shamir's latest album is called Ratchet. He's currently on tour in the US and Canada. You can find more on his website.

A decade after ‘The Omnivore’s Dilemma,’ Michael Pollan sees signs of hope

https://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/food/a-decade-after-the-omnivores-dilemma-michael-pollan-sees-signs-of-hope/2016/06/06/85cdadfe-2c0a-11e6-9b37-42985f6a265c_story.html?postshare=211465843052686&tid=ss_in

By Michael Pollan June 6

In the 10 years since I wrote “The Omnivore’s Dilemma,” many things about the American food system have changed for the better, but perhaps the most important development — and potentially the most challenging to the long-term survival of that system — is the fact that the question at the heart of my book has moved to the heart of our culture.

I hasten to add this is not my doing. When I wrote the book, Eric Schlosser’s “Fast Food Nation” and Marion Nestle’s “Food Politics” had already helped pique the curiosity of Americans about the system that fed them. Yet, in general, all writers can really do is lift a sensitive finger to the cultural breeze and sense a coming change in the weather; very seldom do they actually change it themselves. (Or as one of my mentors once explained, “Journalists are at best short-term visionaries. Any more than that, no one would read them.”) In fact, during the four years I spent researching the book, most of the time I felt like I was late to the story. Something about the public’s attitude toward food and farming was already shifting underfoot, and I became convinced my book was going to be dated on arrival. Food safety scandals, such as mad cow disease in England and outbreaks of E. coli contamination in fast food hamburgers in America, had raised disturbing questions about how we were producing meat. At the same time, climbing rates of obesity and Type 2 diabetes had led many to wonder if perhaps Americans had developed a national eating disorder of some kind. Food, which is supposed to sustain us and give us pleasure, was making people anxious and sick. Why?

Are American Elections Being Hacked? Jonathan Simon: Code Red & Commissioner Virginia Martin

Voting machines are black boxes: designed, run and read by private corporations with proprietary control. The public pays for them, but has no access to them. And most voting machine companies are highly partisan from the right wing of the political spectrum.

Claridad cumple años esta semana

CLARIDAD: UNA BREVE HISTORIA

Carmelo Ruiz Marrero
CLARIDAD

Green islands in Isla Verde (II)

http://www.alainet.org/en/articulo/177732

by Carmelo Ruiz

...the prices are sky-high. Omelet with vegan vianda cheese and green salsa for $12, gazpacho (a tomato-based cold vegetable soup) for $7, vianda soup for $5 to $8 depending on serving size, papaya and yerbabuena pancake with pineapple syrup for $11, baked pasta with chili and chayote on cream au gratin for $12. Dear reader, we do not know about you. We do not know if you live in elite and pricey San Francisco or Manhattan, or in the more affordable North Dakota or Central Vermont, but these prices are simply unaffordable for us. We simply cannot eat here. You can lecture us all you want about the high price of cheap food and shower us with Vandana Shiva and Michael Pollan quotes, but no words change the fact that we have to eat elsewhere. In fact, most people we know could never afford any of this fare.
