Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our first fundraising campaign so far. We’ve already raised 21% of our goal but we still have a long way to go and need your help.
We’ve done a great deal over the last three years and we’ll continue to do more in the years to come. Our work to help the creative community through flexible licensing has been amazingly successful. And we know that you want to see such high quality work carry on for the benefit of artists, educators, scientists and writers.

In order for us to build upon this success, we need your support. Our future depends on your investment so that unique and important projects like these can continue to grow:

  • Peabody Award winning director Davis Guggenheim will release his critically acclaimed documentary, TEACH, under a CC license in December. The film, about first-year teachers in the Los Angeles public school system, is being used as a recruitment tool for young people who are considering careers in education. Stay tuned for news of a special CC-sponsored screening and hosted reception early next year.
  • Continued growth of our international reach. With the launch of the CC-South Africa in March 2005, we’re now in every populated continent in the world. More than 25 jurisdictions have launched Creative Commons licenses, and 50 more are in the works, including China, India, Mexico and Nigeria.
  • The Open Access Law Program will continue to work to make legal scholarship “open access”— freely available online to everyone without undue copyright and licensing restrictions. Currently, 30 law journals in Canada, the UK and the US have adopted the principles or have policies consistent with them, including all of the journals published by Duke Law School. Through our Science Commons project, we’re working to expand this initiative throughout a wider range of disciplines, including agriculture, anthropology, biology and entomology.

It has never been more important for creators to be able to access tools and methods so that they can share, promote and distribute their work as they choose. The message is clear and urgent. And our goals are only achievable with your help. We need your support now to demonstrate that this movement is broad and growing.

In appreciation of your generosity Creative Commons will list the names of donors (if you allow) on our Supporters of Creative Commons page. Commoner donations and shipping information are handled by PayPal. If you have any questions about contributing, please contact Anne N. Marino, Development Director, at 415-946-3068 or anne@creativecommons.org.
