Filmmaker Kevin Hansen travels the globe in search of the commons—the lush rainforests and lively cities of Brazil, the U.S. Gulf Coast in the wake of the BP oil disaster, the first major international commons conference, the World Trade Organization meeting in Cancun that attracted both titans of the global economy and passionate protesters in the streets.

What he brings back is Common Healing, an absorbing 20-minute introduction to the ideas and the issues of the commons that serves as a preview for his film-in-progress. Common Healing not only features pithy interviews with the likes of Bill McKibben, “planetary rights” lawyer Polly Higgins, Native American leader Tom Goldtooth, and business professor Leo Burke, but memorable images of the commons around the world. —Jay Walljasper
