State Labeling Initiatives

Center for Food Safety has worked with grassroots movements in individual states, counties, and municipalities to improve the oversight of genetically engineered crops and foods. To this end, CFS has a number of “model” state bills or local initiatives to better protect non-GE farmers, prohibit GE crop planting or require labeling. Through these efforts CFS has successfully assisted in the passage of a number of bills around the country in the past. Interested parties seeking counsel on getting an initiative started in your city or state should contact CFS at office@centerforfoodsafety.org.
Already in 2014, there are more than 60 active bills in 23 states requiring labeling or prohibiting genetically engineered foods.Download our fact sheet GE Labeling: States Take Action to learn more about state labeling bills, or click on the states below for a list of GE food labeling bills.
